I just uploaded a current copy of all of the SketchUp drawings that I have made.

By the way, should we be utilizing the actual DropBox application more often. It seems like it would be a very nice way to keep our stuff organized and in sync.

What dropbox application is currently in use? Would it not be preferable to switch over to something like SVN for all project code/files/documentation?

We are using dropbox. It is a simple way to synchronize files across many computers. The free version is limited to 2GB of storage so it may be best to let each sub-workgroup have their own that the memebers who are working on a project can use.
Dropbox may not be the best way to keep technical files, but it is pretty nice for other stuff (graphics, documents, ect).

We are using a mercurial repository within our google code project. There are already files here, such as CAD documents for OHKLA and flight simulation software (USOFS).

Just wanted to emphasise there is also some CLLARE related documentation in there – the CLLARE Overview Document, which is probably the most complete/impressive thing we have produced so far.

Do we have any vector or high-res images of the main logo? If so, I'd like to get my hands on it so I can play around with it in After Effects. I'm working on some video ideas. Also, let me know the fonts you're using.
Thanks in advance.

You can find some fairly high resolution versions at this Wiki page. As far as I know, there are no .svg versions of the logo, but there is a .eps, which I think is scalable. It's not online yet (but I might do that now, it's overdue). If you need it ASAP, PM me and I'll email it to you.

I've started having a look into converting the sketchup models to povray format (povray is a high quality ray tracer), for the purposes of trying to produce some high quality renders (and possibly simple animations at a later stage). You can see my first stab at it here: http://mikeasoft.com/~mike/com…..module.png
The next stages on this would be producing some higher quality/more interesting material textures, then probably introducing a particle system to give the appearance of the booster firing.
I just chose this model as a starting point to fiddle around with, if there's one that people feel would be a better/higher priority one to focus on I'll be happy to switch to doing that one instead.

There is an SVG version. You can find it there: https://docs.google.com/a/cstart.org/
Maybe we can allow SVG upload to the wiki?

I would love too, but currently only "png, gif, jpg, jpeg" files may be uploaded to the Wiki. This is something that needs to be changed. I will add it to the bug tracker and send an email to Rizwan. Once it is changed we can upload it.
The alternative is to add the promotional stuff to the Mercurial repository and implement it in the Wiki as an external link. This is probably best in the long run.

It is nice to see the renders being played around with. Unfortunately pretty much everything is obsolete now. Does anyone else know how to use SketchUp or another 3D modeling program? SketchUp is good for rapid prototyping, but it isn't very good for detailed 3D models.

Do I need an @cstart.org address for this? I tried my forum/Wave logins, but no luck. For now I can play with the high-res PNG files that Luke pointed me to.
Thanks guys.

Shouldn't those files be publicly available? Anyways, you might need a google account.

I have a Gmail account, but that doesn't seem to work here. Under the login line, it says "@cstart.org" so I figured that meant an email address at this domain was required. It seems like there are quite a few areas for various things to go, including the Wiki, GoogleDocs, Mercurial Repository, Dropbox, etc. It might be nice to have some sort of listing and tutorial for accessing each of these archives/databases, and what their primary use is. Maybe this is already posted somewhere but I'm still playing catch-up on a lot of these threads.

Right now things really are scattered around quite badly. It is a serious problem and one we need to address soon. Personally I would like to see the use of third-party solutions for hosting files completely done away with: Dropbox and GoogleDocs should be ruled out, we should have our own solution and ideally we should one day have a single log in system for all our solutions. I think the Mercurical Repository needs to be reserved for serious/official things rather than being somewhere to dump just anything (like concept sketches, etc).
The best solution might be to find some simple PHP web app we can install which lets people upload files of any kind to cstart.org/files, or whatever. This should be used for anything which isn't polished/official enough to make it into the repo. We can set the Wiki up to allow people to include external images from that domain and then disable the Wiki upload function to enforce its use. To keep things organised we'd need to find some upload software which allowed tagging/categorisation, but this shouldn't be too hard.
This is just one more important good idea that we need to implement soon. I am thinking of trying to convene a big IRC meeting soon with all active parties, like the one we had to prepare for SpaceUp, so we can work together solidly for a few hours and try to get a lot of this mess sorted out. Unfortunately it looks like Rocket is going to be away for the next week, but we'll just have to soldier on without him. Brmj is supposed to be back online today sometime, IIRC, so he should be able to help. It will be vital that Rizwan be around for this since we will want to install lots of new software on the server.

In fact, it looks like elgg, which we are thinking of installing anyway, will allow us to do just this. From the about page:
Activity Seeker comes equipped with a full file repository that will handle a wide variety of data including photos, word documents, audio files, videos, PDFs and more.
You can easily flip between lists of files and image galleries, in order to comfortably find the item you're looking for.
Users can display their latest files on their profile and – using the media embed tool – embed any file into their content.
I am starting to feel like elgg by itself will be an extremely useful tool in letting us get more organised.

Cool, yeah… I was going to suggest consolidating these file managers for the sake of everyone's sanity, but I figured you guys already were thinking the same thing. There should only be one or two 'go-to sources' for everything pertaining to the project — especially now that we're still in the early stages of development, having the system categorized correctly now will ensure uniformity and easy access in the future.
I am all for doing a live IRC meeting soon, as I'd like to meet everyone and present some ideas, etc. Also I think doing something like this every week or two would be great for setting goals and tracking progress. I notice it's been a bit quiet around here lately (maybe because I'm one of the few state-side guys), but I think we all need to push each other to stay motivated.

Full ACK on everything! Meetings on weekends are probably best, since it's hard to find a time slot that fits everyone in every time zone during the work week.

It is definitely quieter than usual these days. In part this is just bad timing: brmj has been travelling around a lot lately and had his laptop break down during travel, and Rocket has been busy with work. I don't know where rpulkrabek has gone, but he is usually around more often than this, too. Hopefully in about a week or so Rocket will be back and brmj will have found a replacement laptop, or will at least be back home with his desktops, and we will see things pick up again. Once we are back at full strength we definitely need to focus on getting ourselves a lot more organised.
