We had a great first bi-weekly meeting. I was really happy with how well we were able determine issues. We now know how to move forward and are a bit more organized. This meeting lasted about three hours. It seems we all had a lot we wanted to say. We didn't have time to discuss the website structure. This will have to wait until the next meeting.
Here is a copy of the meeting minutes (PDF).
Here is a copy of the chat log (txt).
The next meeting will be on week 47 at the same time on Friday/Saturday (depending on time zone).

We should come up with an official template for the meeting minutes. I remember having some sort of nice template for other documents. Can we leverage those for the meeting minutes as well?

Here is the template we use at Mach 30 (http://mach30.org/pub/help/rec…..tes-format). It is based includes all the items required by our (and most other) bylaws. By the way, I really like how you tagged websites, etc as resources in the minutes from this weekend's meeting. Great way to call out that material!

The second bi-weekly meeting is schedule to take place this Saturday @ 5am for GMT. Please check you local time compared to this. An example will be:
-Friday night @ midnight (Saturday 12am) for eastern standard time (New York, New York)
-Saturday @ 4pm for EDT (Sydney, Australia)
-Saturday @ 6 am for CET (Paris, France)
After a successful first bi-weekly meeting, let's keep up the good pace for the second meeting. I would like to propose the following topics to discuss:
1) Incorporation findings resulting from the first meeting.
2) ODE findings
a) Results from the tests of the base application to use.
b) Do we have an name suggestions?
3) Status of current programs
a) Have there been progress in any of these areas?
b) Have there been or planned to be any program specific meetings?
4) Web page
I hope to see you all soon on the IRC channel. Join in if even to just say "hi">

We had our second bi-weekly meeting this past weekend. I see both good and bad things that came about.
What I saw as a negative was that not many members participated. I was first thinking this was due to members getting burned out. I am now thinking that this is due to exams and the Thanksgiving holiday. This is, perhaps, a reasonable excuse. Because of this, we didn't get to discuss anything of ODE or the website.
What I was really happy to see was that brmj has been making good progress with Program Cloudlab. He has been working with K2GXT (I believe this is RIT's amateur radio club). He had this to say;
"K2GXT's ballon project is comming along nicely and we ought to be able to reuse a lot of their stuff. Right now, we are perhaps 40% done with the design of a reliable, stand-alone GPS tracking system with off the shelf components. K2GXT's ballon project is comming along nicely and we ought to be able to reuse a lot of their stuff. Right now, we are perhaps 40% done with the design of a reliable, stand-alone GPS tracking system with off the shelf components."
Program Chimera is also making a bit of progress. At the moment there are two concepts for a static test rig. The idea is to now consolidate the two designs to make one final design.
J. Simmons from Mach30 also showed up to provide a bit more information of incorporating. We still need to determine where to incorporate and who will provide the footwork. We are leaning towards incorporating in Florida, we would just like confirmation from members in that area that will do the footwork. Also, we are still waiting to hear about the tests for a base application to be used for ODE.
To move forward, let's use the forum for the next two weeks to post results and/or new ideas. We can then bring these items up at the next bi-weekly meeting.

The third bi-weekly meeting successfully concluded. We had good quality discussions. Our topics this time included the progress that has been made within the programs/projects. We heard from Program Cloudlab and Program Chimera as well as work on ODE.
Program Cloudlab has made great progress. This can be attributed to brmj and the collaboration he has been doing with K2GXT. With the discussion we had, we were able to narrow down some of the things that Cloudlab will be testing. One item that seemed to generate interest was the ability to track via radio, since GPS will have problems over a certain altitude and certain speed.
Program Chimera has been making good progress as well. Hopefully everyone has gotten to take a look at some of the CFD results that were posted earlier for the design of the injector plate. Another topic that was brought up briefly for Chimera was what to use for the igniter. We are leaning towards using NiChrome wire, and perhaps some sort of dry powder that would ignite from the wire heating up when a current is applied. Testing will need to be done with this. Also, work on the static test rig still needs to move forward.
We have agreed to move forward with ODE as well. openspacemovement.org was mentioned. This platform may suite our needs, but since it is currently not available, we are unsure. It was mentioned that OSM could have about 90% overlap to ODE. It is better, however, to work on what our current needs are. brmj and J_Mach30 are going to collaborate over the weekend to test redmine for the base of ODE.

Speaking of meetings, I was wondering if we could arrange a four-way meetup between CSTART, Mach 30, OpenLuna, and myself – representing the Open Space Movement. Original plan would have been for tomorrow around 7pm – but Paul Graham of OpenLuna may be busy during that period.
I'd like to answer any questions you may have about the OSM, and how things are looking with our site. Aside from a few issues, we're on track to get a release candidate out the door soon, preceeded by a bit of beta testing. The site itself should handle all of the needs brought up in the ODE document. However, the scope of the operation is considerably wider than just that.
Any suggestions on a good time to sync up?

I would be willing to meet up. I don't have the skills required to be able to develop anything. Mostly I would want to hear what exactly OSM is.
As for a meeting time, this is a bit tricky. We have members that are in US, Europe, India and Australia. Finding a time of day that we are all free is difficult. What we have found to work best is 5am GMT on a weekend. This is night time in US, early morning in Europe and evening in Australia.

Perhaps it might be better to hold this discussion on the forums here, rather than try herding cats on IRC.

The other alternative would be to meet in person at a conference. I'll be at the AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting next month, and I always attend ISPCS. Anyone else regularly attend any particular conferences?

Friday/Saturday Bi-weekly meeting. This will take place at 5am GMT on IRC.
Let's continue with our bi-weekly meetings. It has been a few weeks since we have last had one. Let's utilize this meeting to determine how the organization should move forward. We will have the meeting Saturday @ 5am for GMT. Please check you local time compared to this. An example will be:

I would like to propose the following topics to discuss (feel free to propose other topics):
1) Status of current programs
1a) Have there been progress in any of these areas?
1b) Have there been or planned to be any program specific meetings?
2) ODE vs OSM
3) Incorporation
4) Web page organization

I'll see if I can make it tonight.
Speaking of ODE, while doing some follow up research on redmine, I came across a free redmine hosting site. Greg and I setup a demo project on it using material from his senior design project (a hybrid motor sounding rocket). You can see it here:
https://www.hostedredmine.com/projects/byrd-rocket
Note, hostedredmine.com is a pretty vanilla install of redmine (no version control system hosting, have to get that from third party), but I think this can still make an interesting test case for the features. Especially in a side by side comparison.
I am also thinking about contacting one or more of the redmine consultants to get some feedback about how much it would cost to get the project started as contract work in lieu of waiting for the right people to come along. That will probably happen sometime next week.

We
had yet again a successful meeting last weekend. The main objective was to regroup after a relatively long break and determine what the organization should do next.
Here are the meeting minutes.
Here is the chat log.
We discussed the current status of
Program Chimera (hybrid rocket, name OHKLA) and Program Cloudlab
(high altitude weather balloon), the current status of ODE and
briefly discussed about the webpage.
Generally speaking, Program Chimera and
Cloudlab are moving forward. Chimera is still overcoming some
analysis issues, which will then lead to design decisions. Cloudlab
is ordering some Nichrome wire to test a cutdown system and has
decided on a system based on a beagle board.
ODE has had some progress where a test
with Redmine as a hosting site has been performed. A test with Basie
is also now underway. There have been concerns in the past that the
quality of the code should evaluated. Those that are interested
should then take a look. Make a forum post to ask how this can be
done.
We came to the conclusion that the
website needs a makeover. The best way to handle this is to have a
specific meeting to discuss the website. As far as I know, only
Rizwan and Luke have privileges to handle this.
Luke and Rizwan, can we set up a
meeting to discuss what to do with the website?

Thanks very much for posting the log and minutes, rpulrabek.
I'm very sorry I wasn't at this meeting just gone – I am trying to get involved in CSTART where I can but now is a very busy time, a lot of my weekends are used preparing for my likely impending move overseas. I will do my best to make it to the meeting on the website, as I agree this is a huge priority – nobody except the inner core of CSTART knows much about what is going on in the projects because there is almost no high visibility communication with the "public". This must change.
I am extremely interested to know more about these new directions with CloudLab, especially the change from Arduino (although that was always tentative) to BeagleBoard. Brmj, if you have the time to make a post briefly summarising recent developments in CloudLab I'd be extremely keen to read it.

I think the timing of this meeting depends on you and Rizwan. We won't have it unless you can participate.

I was just reviewing my schedule for the weekend, and I have a note that there should be a CSTART meeting this weekend. Is that correct?

Well, maybe a meeting would have been good. I was away at the time. What disappoints me is that since I was gone, there has been no development. I can't be the only one to do anything for this organization to succeed. I see now that the wiki is full of spam. It seems we have lost our way.
I am not giving up, though. I will continue to work on OHKLA and I will continue to submit my progress. I will also continue to implement any new ideas from the community.

The problem with the wiki is that no-one is looking after it.
And the only people who can delete spam pages are the administrators, who are Rocket-To-The-Moon and Lmauritis and Admin
The main page disappeared 3 days ago, and no-one seems to have noticed …
(I've just put it back again)
