The OHKLA rocket engine is a hybrid engine. It consists of an oxidiser tank containing self-pressurising nitrous oxide, connected via a controllable valve to a combustion chamber, containing a solid fuel grain with one or more ports extending through the length of the grain to an exhaust nozzle. An ignition system near the upper end of the combustion chamber is used to set the fuel burning once the oxidising valve is opened. The fuel grain burns evenly along its length, from the inside out.
