Hi there,

I have recently completed a degree in mechanical engineering, and I'm looking for an engineering job to hone what I've learned. My school wasn't great, but I have learned some things.

Apart from that, I'm looking to volunteering in a project related to spaceflight. This seems right up my alley, so here's a question: How do I get started?

Welcome to the project. It's great to have you onboard. One of the first places to start would be reading a bit about our current plans and offering any refinements, criticisms or suggestions you have. Do you have any particular areas of expertise? Right now, the three most active technical things being worked on are the lander, the layout of the moon landing stack, and the design of our suborbital rocket, but we would welcome help in things that haven't been seeing as much work recently as well.

Basically, just jump in wherever you feel you can best contribute.

Main work groups: Propulsion (booster), Spacecraft Engineering, Computer Systems, Navigation and Guidance (software)

Thanks! I'll do some poking around. Being as my education was very general, I honestly don't have areas of expertise, but I can study the things that need to be done to further help :)

Great to have you here!

If you are interested in the lunar landing project, CLLARE, in particular, you might also like to check out:

  • The Wiki page Getting involved in CLLARE for more guidance on how to start contributing
  • The latest druaft of the CLLARE Project Overview document, which we are currently working on – it contains 90% of the technical details we've hammered out thus far and is the most complete/authoritative way to get up to date on the project as a whole.

Please don't be afraid to ask any other questions on how to get involved, we'd really love for you to find something you can enjoy helping on.  If you still want any specific suggestions on things to think about after reading everything we've posted here, do say so and we'll try to help you.

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.
