Greetings all.
I am Kapil Kaisare, a design thinker and software architect from Pune, India. I've been here a few times before; I think what you guys are doing is great, and I'd love to be a part of it too.
I have worked with Python, Javascript, Java and PHP before; I think I'd be able to contribute to the Computer Systems Workgroup, however, I would like towards becoming a part of the space craft engineering workgroup as well. I have no formal education in astrophysics, but I can learn.
I look forward to working with everyone and having fun in the bargain. Cheers!

Welcome, it's wonderful to have you here!
If you are interested in doing a little bit of Python programming straight off the bat there is a small bit of work available in making a suborbital flight simulator program we currently have in Python a little more user friendly. It probably wouldn't be the most exciting work, but it would be very helpful. If you're interested let me know and I can show you more details.
Otherwise, just take your time and have a look around the forums and Wiki and see if anything catches your interest. There are plenty of resources around the place which will help you get up to speed on the various projects – if you haven't already, be sure to check out this New Members Information post in the forum.
It might be a little overwhelming at first, there is so much to read and it isn't always clear what is the easiest way to be helpful, but if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask them here. We'd love for you to find something you can be happy to help with.
PS: We have one other active member from India, Rizwan Memon. I'm not entirely sure whereabouts he lives/works, but if you guys were not too far apart it could be very productive for you to bounce ideas off each other in real time.

Welcome to the team! You seem to know what's going on more or less, having been here before, so I'll spare you the usual "this is what's happening; you probably want to help out here" speech.
however, I would like towards becoming a part of the space craft engineering workgroup as well. I have no formal education in astrophysics, but I can learn.
If a relevant degree was required to contribute, we wouldn't have gotten this far. Many of us are learning on the job here, so you won't be alone. I'm sure you'll be able to help out quite a bit, especially at these early stages were concepts matter as much as numbers.

Nice to see someone from India. Kapil, I stay in Mumbai, which is very much near by from Pune, hardly a 3 hour drive.
Should be great to meet up some time. Although I am pretty much blank with programming so I am not sure how our discussion will go. :D

@Luke:
The suborbital flight simulator program sounds interesting; I wouldn't mind working on it while I bootstrap myself knowledge wise. How would I go about getting the source?
@Rizwan:
Greetings! I am currently in Rajkot though for a project, so we'd have to wait for a meeting until after March. What do you do?

I can answer that one. It's in our mercurial repository. You can see it online here. Have you used mercurial before? If not, here's a tutorial.

Sure thing, we can meet whenever you are comfortable. As for what I do, I manage a small design studio here in Mumbai.

Since yourself and one other person have expressed interest on working on this project, I have made a dedicated thread for helping you get started on donig useful work. Please check it out and ask any and all questions you want to so that I can best help you get started. :)
