Besides lurking in the forums and making stupid suggestions, I don't know how I am going to do anything useful for CSTART without discussing it with some people. I think it would be great to schedule weekly, one-hour IRC meetings where whoever can come gets together and tries to set out tasks and divide labor.

Or is this already happening and I just haven't noticed?

The big problem with regular and scheduled IRC meetings is timezones.  We have typically had problems even scheduling meetings for the 5 directors, since they span Australia, Finland, India and the US (until recently we also had a very active member from Germany).  The only way to schedule a meeting for all concerned to be available is to choose some unlucky subset to have to come after midnight or in the wee hours of the morning.  This usually limits us to weekends, and weekends where everybody is free are relatively rare.

I suppose we could have a system of two meetings per week, with one optimised for each hemisphere or something like that.

For the record, there is usually a lot more discussion happening on the forums.  You have come at a relatively rare time where a lot of the directors are tied up IRL so things are a bit quiet.

With regards to division of labour, if people give us an area in which they have at least some experience, we can typically point them in a useful direction.  If you don't have any knowledge or experience in directly applicable areas, the best bet is probably to tell us which parts of which projects you find most interesting and we can help you start teaching yourself relevant stuff to contribute to that area.

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.

Moving forward with that idea of having two IRC meetings per week, I think we should definitely try it out and see how it goes? If it does work out may be we could as well make it our official timings?

How about a rolling time schedule where each meeting (2 per week) is 4 hours later than the one before.

Also, as mentioned in another post, I am strongly in favor of a mailing list so that we can contact everyone of the times.
