A while ago Rizwan sent an email to all the directors pointing out a discussion about CSTART on the mailing lists of the Open Manufacturing Network which "is about bringing free and open source software development methodology and philosophy to the design and construction of the physical world".

I have carried on a conversation with some of the people there since then, you can view the conversation here.

Nothing too interesting has happened (although there is a useful nugget of knowledge about restarting regeneratively cooled engines toward the end), but I think this has mostly been helpful from the perspective of spreading awareness and making contacts.  I have received two emails from people introducing themselves and pointing me at projects or IRC channels.

In particular, the guy who runs the CubeSpawn project is a space enthusiast

There is a software effort called "apt-get-for-hardware" (Referencing the Debian package management tool) that I was told about by somebody involved in it, but I haven't been able to find out too much about it yet.

Just letting everyone know what has been going on on this front, we may want to think about eventually partnering with a project along these lines if there is one which can obviously be of great use to us.

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.

This really is a perfect group to get to know better. I can't really think of a better group to contact than one that concerns themselves with actually building physical objects.

Main Workgroups: Propulsion & Spacecraft Engineering
