The Federation of Galaxy Explorers is not exactly a similar organisation to CSTART, in that they are not actually engaged in space exploration themselves, but they are someone we should probably be aware of.

FOGE is a US youth group (kind of like the boy scouts) dedicated to teaching young children about space related science and engineering and inspiring them to believe in a space faring future.  They do a lot of hands on teaching and field trips, ranging up to medium sized amateur rocket launches for the oldest kids.

While most of the kids involved in FOGE at any one time would be too young to contribute much to CSTART, organisations like FOGE could be a huge help for us in the long run because, as their own website says, "Over time, Galaxy Explorers kids will grow to create a long term citizen activist force in society; shaping the national space policy, and furthering the science and engineering required to create a space faring civilization".  Basically, the more kids who grow up thinking that space is exciting and that space exploration is important and have the basic knowledge to educate people around them and dispell myths about space travel, the better of endeavours like CSTART will be in the long run.

A while ago we talked about finding some charitable organisations to donate our money to in the event that CSTART ends up falling apart.  I think FOGE would be a great candidate (although, to maintain our stance of international unity, we should keep an eye out for similar organisations in other countries to support equally) for this sort of thing.  If CSTART ever becomes rich, we could even adopt a policy of donating 5% or 10% of each year's budget to groups like this even while CSTART is running – it would be an investment in our future, and help raise our profile, since the parents of kids in FOGE etc. would learn about us too.

Heck, if we got rich we could even start our own CSTART Scouts one day. :)

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.

Considering our common roots (Reddit) and our primary means of communication and work (the internet) I'm scared to consider what badges a CSTART Scout might collect. "I survived a meme", "I helped an old person avoid an awful URL mispelling", "Linux Basics", "Linux Mastery", "Installed Linux to myself", "Moon Field Trip", "Taught NASA Scientists"…
