The da Vinci Project was a Canadian entry for the original X Prize (and the only team other than Scaled Composites who got close to winning).   They were not open source at all but they were entirely volunteer driven, so there is some similarity to CSTART.  From a technical perspective, there was another big similarities, a paraffin/N2O hybrid launch vehicle.  Their whole system sort of looked like a larger version of Copenhagen Suborbitals' Tycho Brahae (with a spherical, 3 person crew compartment).

There's a very nice detailed Wikipedia article and a good overview pdf (with 3D renderings of the vehicle – we should produce something like this for CLLARE), but their official website now seems mostly devoted to a new, spaceplane project aimed at tourism, formed by a merger between the dVP team and some other company.
