The naming competition is now over, and it only makes some sense that a logo competition should follow it.

I wanted to know what people thought of an approach where we provided (and by we, in effect I mean Rizwan) a kind of "frame" for the logos, to provide some degree of consistency.  I've been particularly motivated by these mission patches that Copenhagen Suborbitals came up with:

tycho patch02mouseheat patch02mouse
I think these look pretty cool, and in addition to working well as patches they could be easily made into shirts, stickers, etc.

I was thinking maybe we could provide a "ring" (like the part of the CS patches with their name and motto) which had our name and motto, and maybe also the program/project name at the top, all in fonts, colours etc. that we choose the match the rest of our image so far, and basically put up these "blank patch" images, and get people to fill in the middle however they choose, and we vote on the resuls.

Do people like this idea?  And if so, Rizwan, are you happy to put together some mock-up blank patches?

The logos may seem like a fairly unimpotant thing to worry about at this stage, but in addition to making it look like we're keeping up our latest burst of momentum, they are something for the non-technical aspect of our community to have some say on, they will make our website look prettier (and visual first impressions can count for a lot), plus once we finally get incorporated and have a bank account having these logos already decided will make it easy to very quickly start up an online store with lots of merchandise in it.  So I think it's worth spending some time on.

We'd certainly need a template as well as a set of guidelines to follow. I'd personally like to have the patches/logos be square as it'd lend better to using them as actual logos on the project pages.

I'm going to email Rizwan and ask him to comment on this.
