Not having a project name for the manned moon project is starting to be a little inconvenient, and it will be a lot more inconvenient once the Wiki is up and we want to start writing about it.

Since it would be really nice to have the actual final name chosen by some sort of big public competition and/or with input from eventual major sponsors, it has been suggested that we adopt a temporary working name for now.  Once the plans are complete and it looks like we are actually going to go ahead with it, we can choose a "proper" name to replace it.

So, does anybody have ideas for a working name?

Not completely satisfied with this, but in an attempt to get the ball rolling:

Collaborative Lunar Landing and Research Expedition = CLLARE?  It would be nicer without the double L but I can't think of a way around it.

There is a figure in Norse mythology named Hati, a wolf who chases the moon through the sky, which is kind of cool. Unfortunately he seems to be more of an evil character than any kind of noble explorer.

List of lunar dieties

I like Selene for the Booster's name.

I do like CLLARE though; it is pronounceable and accurately describes the project.

I really like the name Selene too, although I wonder about giving the booster a moon-oriented name, since we may want to use the same booster for other projects later on if it is suitable.

Is there any reason not to consider Selene as a project name?  Can someone come up with a backronym for it?  There's an 'l' in there, for "lunar"…

I have created a page on the wiki for CLLARE.

This will be the main page for the public to read about our project so we will need to spend a lot of time giving a detailed account of our plan.

I feel like we should wait to hear back from more people on how they feel about the name CLLARE before we do too much with it.  A change in name will be tedious as we'll have to change pages named things like CLLARE_Command_module, CLLARE_Service_module, etc.

Naming issues aside, it is important to have a central page on the wiki for this project.  I think a Portal:CLLARE page might be more appropriate than a plain CLLARE page, but I don't have enough Mediawiki experience yet to know exactly what the portal route affords us.

I see what you are saying, but at the same time just going with at name and running with it will help things progress faster instead of spending time on inconsequence things. We can definitely have a simple poll and vote if you think that is better.

If you are going to be doing a fair bit of work on the main CLLARE page and associated topics sometime soon, could you please be sure to put a link on the main page to the project overview page?  Feel free to do things like rename that page to CLLARE project overview, etc.  Also put links in the overview page to the relevant Selene pages, etc.  And, of course, if you could update the wiki main page's references to CLLARE to include the CLLARE name, etc., that would be really good.

If you're too busy, that's cool, I can do it tomorrow, you just seem to be going through a Wiki work spurt so I thought I'd call these tasks to your attention.
