I was in the live chat today and mentioned my affiliation with CSTART, they said that they would like to have us as a guest for one of their shows. The live show begins at 0200UTC every Thursday.
I believe that they have us use Skype so that they have a video feed.
We can contact them at cariann [at] spacevidcast.com
They are always looking for guests and we could easily have a 30 minute chunk of time to talk. This is something that we should absolutely do.
The live audience for the show today hovered around 50.

Who wants to do this? I'm willing to, but I'm not exactly an impressive speaker, as everyone found out with the ignite talk. Is anyone here particularly good at this sort of thing?

I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at speaking, but I think I'm alright at it. I've given a few talks at academic conferences and run a few tutorial classes, and generally get positive feedback. However, there could be various practical issues, such as the timezone difference, me not having a webcam, and the fact that I may be difficult, especially for an American audience, to understand. I have a very unusual accent that lacks any apparent explanation. I usually get asked where I'm from by people when I meet them for the first time because of it.
EDIT: Actually, I do have a webcam, there is one built into the eeePC, I just forgot about it because I never use it. So I would be willing to do this if people thought it was the best option for some reason.

What local time is 0200UTC for everyone? It is 9:00pm for me so I could do it quite easily if nobody else can. I am typically a good speaker on subjects that I am familiar with, but I'm not sure that I am quite familiar enough to knock this one out of the park.
Luke, I think that you probably have the best big picture of everything, especially some of the finer points that you have worked out. If the timezone issue works for you I think that you would be the best choice.

0200 UTC is 1230 for me. This is quite convenient in the sense that it's not horribly early or very late at night, but at the same time it will rule some days out as possibilities for me because I need to be on campus for meetings, classes, etc.
EDIT: Just read that the show is on Thursdays. This is actually an ideal day for me as I generally have no need to be on campus on Thursdays. So I could be available for one of these shows.

0200 UTC is 2100 for me.
Luke, I'm glad to see that it looks like this would work so well for you.

They mentioned that they have a guest for next weeks show already so we have at least a little bit of time to prepare and figure out the format.

Seems like the topic's already settled, but if need be, I can act as a contingent speaker. I would have no problem with that, especially if it's around 9:00 PM for me. I would ask for a little prep beforehand, but otherwise, I would be totally comfortable with this.

I'm going to send an email to Cariann so that she knows that we are intrested in doing this. Have we decided who will be doing it?

I suppose some kind of explicit vote would be the best way to determine who is doing it?

Here is the message I am about to send:
CSTART is interested in participating
in one of your live shows when you have an opening. The plan would be to
talk about our vision for an open source equivalent of NASA (CSTART
itself) and how we plan on getting there. CSTART is intended to be a
lean framework that allows groups of people from all over the world to
come together and collaborate on challenging technical problems related
to space travel. Our first project, called OHKLA (for Open Hybrid Karman
Line Attempt), is intended to serve mostly as a proof of concept
endeavor to prove that CSTART can function. We are also intending for
OHKLA to carry a semi-advanced guidance system that will be designed by
another group. The big project (the one that probably leads people to
discredit CSTART) is CLLARE.
CLLARE is the Collaborative Lunar Landing And Research Expedition,
basically a lunar mission that takes one human to the surface of the
Moon and back to Earth. We plan on launching CLLARE on a Falcon 9.
Although the $60,000,000 price tag of a Falcon 9 sounds deterring, we
are confident that if we develop the hardware that someone will foot the
bill (buying the seat perhaps).
We haven't decided who will be doing the talk yet, but if you reply to
all then we will all get your response.
What is the procedure
for getting everything ready for the live show?
Good enough?

I received a response (as did all directors)
Yes, for sure we'd love to get someone or a bunch of y'all guys on
the show!
At this point I'm not sure which days are open, as
we have a few places and people we are talking to and I'm just waiting
to get them all set. But as soon as I know something I will be sure to
give you a heads up.
Just a quick FYI, our
shows are always live and on Friday's 0200 UTC. Which basically means
Thursday nights 10pm EDT / 7pm PDT. They will usually last about 45 min
and then there is a post show, which can last for anther hour or so.
It just depends on how the conversation is going and if you or we need
to get to bed. Other than that I have included the Guest Rundown for
you, so you can look it over.
If you have any
other questions, please feel free to contact me and I will try to get
back to you asap!!
Thanks!!
-C
We just need to decide how we want to go about this. If we can all participate then that is even better.

Whatever became of this? It's a great idea, but in my opinion you should wait a few months until there is some substantial progress to show. Telling people what CSTART plans to do is good, but a lot more people will take CSTART seriously if there is something tangible to show. This falls under the realm of marketing/PR which is not something I have seen directly addressed, even though it's a very important topic as it helps determine the number of people joining, and more importantly, funds raised.

SpaceVidCast is pretty low key so I don't think it would be too harmful, but I do agree that we should have more to show.

I also agree, let us wait and atleast do the proposed restructuring before we do the interview.
