I think a good first order of business for planning the Hohmann transfer we are planning to use on getting the CSM into lunar orbit would be to find a patched conic approximation to get a first order estimate on the delta-V's of the required burns.  No doubt that has been done before, but I think doing it ourselves would be very useful in making sure we understand basic concepts.  Once we've done this we can move onto full blown numerical simulation of orbits – if we get similar figures from both techniques this will add somewhat to our confidence.

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.
