No thoughts on this? It would be nice to keep up our recent blog/media momentum and ths might be a good way to do it.
Or do people think holding this over the Christmas/New Year period is a bad idea because people will be too busy to vote?

I think it would be a great idea to get into 2010 before launching the motto comp. Mostly because people are busy with family etc… Maybe begin the comp on Jan 1st lasting a couple weeks?

Jan 1st sounds like a good time to start, with one week for candidate submission and upvoting, and one week for polling for the actual choice?

The motto competition is live!
The blog entry announcing the competition and describing the format is here.
The /r/tothemoon post where submissions can be made is here.
There's a tweet about the competition here.
There's a notice on the FB fan page but I'm not sure how to link directly to it.
Hoping to see some good ideas and community participation come out of this!

How about doing a post on /r/science and /r/space as well?

I agree. I think now is a good time to spread the word and this is a good chance for others to get involved right away. Any other opinions?

I've made submissions to /r/science and /r/space linking to the submission in /r/tothemoon (that way all motto submissions and votes happen in the one place).

Phase 2 of the motto competition has started. The poll is up on the blog, updates have been made to all the usual places (Reddit at /r/tothemoon /r/science and /r/space). Vote now!

"Space exploration, by anyone, for everyone"
I, for one, welcome the new motto :)

I am amazed at the huge margin it won by! In the subreddit, that option and the "Open collaboration…." motto where roughly neck and neck for the entire time.
I guess we have a lot of supporters who are not signed up at reddit, but who were able to use the poll, and most of them really liked "Space exploration, by anyone, for everyone"?
