Sorry to worry you!  I am alive and well.  I have been back from my trip for almost a month now – but I got back not long at all before Christmas and New Years so basically had to hit the ground running when I got home with regard to shopping and organising family stuff, etc.  After that, without any posts showing up in my RSS reader to remind me, CSTART kind of slipped my mind.  All of this is no real excuse, though,  I should at least have let people know I was okay.

I remain interested in CSTART, as ever, but I'm really starting to have extremely little spare time now, as I'm into the final 3 months before I need to submit my PhD thesis, so I'm quite busy.  After submitting I have another trip, this one for two months, but a holiday this time rather than for university stuff.  Then after that, there's a good chance (although not yet 100%) that I'll be moving to the US for a 2 year postdoc position.  So, basically, I'm not going to be able to be work with my usual unhealthily obsessive zeal for quite a long time.

Although I think it petered off toward the end, it did seem that there was still a healthy amount of activity around CSTART during my absence – I'm very gratefully to rpulkrabek for his effort in keeping the fortnightly meetings happening and getting the minutes up.  Are these still continuing?

We took a break from meetings, due to the recent holidays. I personally also got a bit exhausted with work in generally, and as a result, I have been recuperating. Even though I have been silent lately, I have been doing some work with OHKLA. I made a discovery while performing a CFD analysis that made me realize there has been a flaw in my previous analysis. They are still correct, but they could be better. I will document this and explain it in more detail later, as well as how I plan to over come it.

I think we should continue the meetings. I would like to continue having the meetings on every odd numbered week. That meens there won't be a meeting this coming Saturday, but there will be one the following Saturday. This will give us time to prepare an agenda, as well as prepare some work to present at this meeting.

Hey guys,

Well I am back from the middle of nowhere. Did not get much of chance to get to the internet out where I was.

I resigned from my new job to undertake University studies. The job was exceptionally boring as a Mechanical Supervisor/ assistant engineer. It is time for Engineer level I think. With my present qualifications I have half of my BA Mechanical Engineering degree completed and I shall also be undertaking  a post graduate diploma in maintenance management as well as finishing off the last of my technical college studies (it is called TAFE in Australia = Technical and further education)…

Glad to see you guys found Luke! Maybe we should build a rocket and launch a satellite and then attach a locator beacon to Luke… just an idea??? Hmmm, I wonder who we could get to do that?

Due to now becoming a full time student again, I will not be setting up such a large expensive work shop (more is the pity). However, I shall be talking with my TAFE Tech teachers and see if I am able to find a back corner of the workshop and "find" some materials that can be used for our rocket. I am happy to purchase materials… within reason.

How is the design going? Has any construction started anywhere? Is there anything that I can do? I shall look through the posts and see where we are up to.

Congrats to Luke of a possible move to the US for his 2 year Post Doc position! From one Aussie to another – well done MATE!! My ultimate goal is to get to Doctor. Well, I have now completed some 180 subjects (From dual trade apprentice to maintenance manager) and now I am over half way through university without ever studying at University. Nevertheless, I still have a long way to go.

I'm still alive too for the curious. I'm not really sure where I fit in anymore, but I'm still a vocal supporter if nothing else.

Of course, I'm still carrying $290 for whenever we need it (OHKLA materials?).

This design is still moving along. I have mostly been spending my time with simulating the injector plate, to ensure we get the most efficient fluid flow as possible. I have came upon a small hiccup, but hope to overcome this soon. In parallel with this task, I would like to figure out the best way to handle the valve and connections between the oxidizer tank and combustion chamber. This all needs to be designed while keeping in mind how to fill the oxidizer tank as well as perform combustion.

There are quite many ideas floating around. I think it would be best to get everyone involved with Chimera or anyone that is willing to help and have a meeting discussing these things.

Dave, I think you are the best person to explain what can and can't be manufactured. Some of my design attempts for the injector plate have had holes drilled at an angle. You could, for example, explain if this is too difficult, or what the limiting angle would be. Also, it's always helpful to hear any inputs. Perhaps you know of a material that we haven't thought of that would best be used for a specific piece.

Cheers, Dave. :)  Sorry for the late response.  Have a great Australia Day on Wednesday, and best of luck with your own studies!
