We need to raise a lot of money in order to move this organization forward. However, this is very difficult. If you go around and tell people, "hey we're building a rocket ship" they're not going to understand or pay attention. The main people that I think would have an interest in this, are businesses and Universities.
This organization offers a huge potential to make money. First of all, the development of open-sourced software would create many business opportunities. Small startup companies with limited capital, could utilize the software to launch their own companies. In the education sector, schools and universities would have software that they can use in their classrooms. And it would be free.
We are going to find it very difficult to raise money for a project if we say "we're going to the moon." Nobody will invest in that. However, if we explained to people that we were developing very specific designs, or very specific software. Then that will help tremendously.
I for one, would love to see the completion of some sort of software project. This would be great, because we could put them on our laptops and show them to people. I think if we actually produced something of value, the money will come. But its not going to come, until we actually get something released.
Once you get a software system released, then you could submit it to Wired, TechCrunch, or various other online magazines. I could almost guarantee, that if we actually got some software released and it worked, Wired would do a story.
Once we had some media coverage and a working system, we could put on our ties and go out and raise real operating funds.
At this point, it doesn't seem like we can raise any money until we make a legitimate open source contribution.
