For anyone not familiar with SpaceUp, take a look at this thread.

I'm now accepting donations to try and put together enough money to get me to SpaceUp. This money will go towards the cost of plane tickets, lodging, transportation and promotional materials. Every effort will be made to keep costs down, and any donated money that doesn't get used for this, for any reason, will be donated to CSTART's main account. The listed amount is an estimate only; actual costs will probably be lower, though almost certainly not under $300.

I have created a ChipIn to collect this money. If anyone can't use this and would like to donate, bring it to my attention and I will figure out an alternative that doesn't use flash/block India/$COMPLAINT, most likely a standard paypal donate button.

The ChipIn widget is displaying a total of $0 for me, but I could have sworn that a few days ago I saw $65 in there.  Has something gone wrong or was I just imagining that non-zero amount earlier?

The widget on the front page for the 501(c)(3) has $65. This has $0, though in practice it will also have a substantial contribution from me. I am not sure quite how large as of yet. Unfortunately, one can not donate to one's own chipin.

Have we posted to Reddit, the blog, and twitter yet? It shouldn't be too difficult to get the required funds.

I just donated some to get things started. Hopefully this will bait it for others.

That's strange. It's still registering at $0 total as far as I can tell. Is that what everyone else sees?

Actually, yes, I see $0 as well.  Perhaps there's a short delay?  ChipIn may only "ping" PayPal for the current total every hour or some such?

brmj, you said yesterday you were working on a Reddit post to raise awareness of this fundraising campaign but I haven't seen it posted anywhere yet.  Are you still working on this?  Not trying to put time pressure on you or anything, just curious as to what is happening, because if you can't get around to it today I'm happy to take care of it.  The sooner we get something up the better chance we'll have of raising the required money by the required date.

brmj, have you checked your @rit.edu email? There should be a PayPal notice in your inbox.

Rocket: Okay, I have received the paypal notice, so it looks like chipin is just acting stupid for some reason. Thanks! That will go a long way towards paying for it.

Luke: I have something more or less ready to post, but couldn't decide quite how much I was willing to donate. Now that Rocket has supplied $100, I'm thinking of matching the next $150 that gets donated to hopefully meet our goal. Having just received some birthday money, I can probably afford that. If anyone wishes to comment on this plan, I would advise you to do so soon, as I intend to post to reddit within the next hour at the latest.

EDIT: I figured out what is going wrong with the chipin widget. Paypal is claiming it can't accept payment yet because my email address is unconfirmed. When I click on the confirmation link at the end of the email, it tells me the provided code is no good. When I follow the "confirm email address" link on their site, it claims to send me a confirmation email, but it never arrives. Strange. Currently googleing this for a solution.

I have no objections to your plan at all, look forward to seeing something on Reddit.

I've been wrestling with paypal for what feels like hours now. I managed to add one of my other email addresses and confirm that one, but it still steadfastly refuses to confirm the RIT account. If I can't get that figured out, I won't ever be able to receive Rocket's attempt at a donation. In that case, we'll have to figure out a way to cancel the payment and have him resend it with the other email account targeted. I think I managed to switch the chipin to the other account, but I plan on creating a new one, both as a precaution and because the existing one doesn't reflect my new matching donation scheme. Expect the reddit posts before much longer.

So ChipIn still isn't showing the donation. What is going on? Did you receive the funds in your account?

Paypal has gotten the transactions, but isn't releasing the funds yet. I can't seem to get it to confirm the rit email address for some reason, but I have added my gmail and that is now working. I googled this problem, and some other people have this problem too, but I couldn't find a way to fix it so far. I don't think you have been charged yet, since I haven't gotten your money in my account yet. If I can't get it to send me the account confirmation email, our best bet might be to cancel this transaction and have you resend it using the new email account associated with my paypal. How do you want to proceed?

Good news: I just got off the phone with paypal support. They were able to resolve that issue. Now I've just got to wait at most a day or to for their verification of my bank account to go through, and I will be able to get at the money from your donation and everyone else's.

I came here to donate tonight, but I've just noticed the "EDIT: This ChipIn now deprecated." above.  Is that accurate?  It's showing me a date of Feb 15, which hasn't quite been yet.  Is the deprecation for some other reason?

This was depricated when I was first working out the links in paypal. It had seemed unwilling to conferm the email address this was asociated with, so I set up another one and told people to use that instead until I got this resolved. It is now resolved, so you can donate to either without trouble. I'll remove that edit to reflect that.
