With the recent news about PayPal arbitrarily deciding things are scams and stealing their money, as well as that post on the subreddit where someone wanted to donate, but wouldn't through PayPal, I would like to suggest that we sut up a Google Checkout account as an alternative. It looks quite easy, especially since we already use google apps, but I'm not sure how easy it is to switch what account it goes to, so unless we can figure it out, we'll have to wait until CSTART has it's own account.

I have no objection to setting up a Google Checkout account, as long as it is to suplement and not outright replace a PayPal account. Not so much because I am a fan of PayPal (I am aware that alot of people have always regarded them as unreliable/unfair), but my main concern is integrability with other systems. For instance, we found a shirt provider, Zazzle.com, which will pay us directly to a PayPal account. This was hard enough, finding one which will pay directly to Google Checkout may be impossible. I've not got good technical details about the Flattr system yet (I'm in a queue to get an invite code), but I think it is highly likely that there will be an option to receive your Flattr income in a PayPal account and highly unlikely that there will be a Google Checkout option.

Based on the promotional video I'm not sure that Flattr is what we want (exclusively). Don't we want a system where people can donate an arbitrary amount of money to CSTART? It seems like Flattr only allows people to donate a portion of their monthly "cake".
I think I am personally in favor of sticking with PayPal simply because of its huge market share compared to other service. Ideally we would have the ability to accept major credit card transactions (PayPal offers this service) directly on our website.
With that being said. The more payment options we have the better. However this complicates the accounting and there may be some transaction losses when we juggle the money around.
