Sparkfun electronics is giving away free parts early next year. Here's a link. From the site:
- $100 max per household
- You pay shipping
- Limit of $100,000 in giveaways for the day
- Starts 9AM MST January 7th, 2010
- Ends 11PM MST January 7th, 2010 (or when we hit $100k, whichever comes first)
- Rainchecks for popular items will be allowed
Sure, this isn't primarilly an electronics project, but they have sensors, GPS equipment, radio parts and so on which we might find useful for OHKLA. Of course, there is no way we can have our electronics designed by then, but we may be able to find things that we are pretty sure we will be able to use. Thoughts?

I think this is great! $100 on electronics! I looked through there products and found many usefull things. Excellent find. Now we need to determine a shopping list and how we can maximize this opportunity.

$100 per household in electronics. Who knows how many of our households will be able to praticipate in this, but it will probably be greater than 1.

What an astonishing offer! They even have MEMS accelerometers and gyros on there! Including some rated to +-18 g! We definitely need to plan carefully to take maximum advantage of this offer.

Great find. It would be somewhat foolish to not take advantage of this. We probably have at least 6 people who would be able to get in on this (hopefully more). Once we have a list we can PM semi-active members so that they get the email letting them know that we need their help.

We really need to get a shopping list put together for this. Time is ticking away.
If we can't figure out exactly what we need (I doubt that we will be able to) then we need to buy a bunch of cheap parts that we know we will eventually need.

Things we may want for OHKLA that cost < $100:
These may all be suboptimal choices of the particular items that they are. We really need somebody who understands how to put all this stuff together, otherwise we're just guessing.
There is so much cheap, awesome looking stuff on SparkFun, I wish I knew more about how to use it. You could build some truly awesome things quite cheaply.

How are we going to go about with our shopping? The event is a few hours away, and I assume will only last for a few hours.

I hope somebody else had better luck then me. I entered my credit card information and after waiting for the next page to load, I found out the give away ended.
Did anyone manage to take away anything?

I don't know about OHKLA, but there's a fairly comprehensive list of parts for CloudLab in this thread.

Did anyone manage to get anything from Sparkfun?
Since I have been a customer for less than 1 year, I wasn't able to get a free gift, rather, I had to take a quiz of 10 question with each question being worth $10. I was only able to get through 4 questions before the event closed, getting 3 correct, resulting in $30 worth of products from Sparkfun.
There is a limit of time that I have before I spend it. This isn't a huge amount, but it would get us somewhere. Luke, you have previously mentioned some useful items. Are we at the point that we should spend the money towards these items? I imagine that brmj could use some of these items for Program Cloudlab. I could then have these shipped to him.
