I've been hanging out with RIT's amateur radio club today. It turns out that they work with Project Meteor and do some of the sort of stuff we will need. When you guys think we're ready, I can see if any of them want to help out. I'm also thinking about joining the club, and potentially trying to get a ham radio liscense. Anything in particular you want me to do or ask about? When will we be ready for me to bring up CSTART?

Main work groups: Propulsion (booster), Spacecraft Engineering, Computer Systems, Navigation and Guidance (software)

I can't think of any particular questions of the top off my head, but radio hams may just be the people CSTART needs most right now.  All the other workgroups in CLLARE have done something, even if it is not too detailed.  Our booster design work is going great, we have rough ideas about our spacecraft and lander, there has been at least some discussion of how to do basic life support using scuba gear, we have at least talked about computer options, and there have been some nice flight path simulations and discussion of writing a very cool piece of software to do more, plus some preliminary investigation into inertial navigation.

But the Communications Workgroup right now is complete and total vapourware.  We couldn't even bluff our way through detailed questions about how communication is going to work.

I think in the context of mentioning it to some hams at your university, you could bring up CSTART whenever you like.  I think the concern about making sure everything is well polished and organised and we can take donations and stuff is more appropriate to things like frontpaging Reddit or contacting other groups like Open Luna or Copenhagen.  We shouldn't be afraid to introduce ourselves to individual or small groups of geeks.  At least one person at your club is sure to think this is awesome.

Main CLLARE workgroups: Mission Planning, Navigation and Guidance. I do maths, physics, C, Python and Java.
